the great satan
Well, I had my Starbucks interview yesterday morning, so light candles in your cathedrals for me. :) The interview was ok- I started off quite peppy, but I think by the very end, it wore off a bit. I came up with some great answers, but in a couple of the questions, I froze up, concentrating on the letter instead of the spirit of the question. It's too painful to relive anything in specifics, but overall it was all right; it it had gone very well, I assume he would have offered me a job on the spot, but he didnt'. I'm still waiting to hear back, and to hear from Tully's. It'll be something to do while I don't know what I'm doing.

Goodness! How exciting!
My sister has a friend who's a barista at Tully's. If you got a job at Starbucks, you'd have to have wars, and it would tear my family apart. But don't let that dissuade you. Hahaha. Isn't Greg thinking about getting a job at some cafe in Issaquah or something, as a last resort, since there are no campaigns to join at the mo? Maybe you guys would also have to have a great schism.
If you don't get a job there, you could always come to San Francisco. I saw a sign at a chocolate cafe called Bittersweet, that was requesting chocolate-loving baristas. You could be that chocolate-loving barista.
I don't think I'll light a candle in a cathedral for you (would that even work, as you're Jewish?), but I will light a candle in my living room, and walk past a cathedral on my way to school, and think of you.
You may hear back from them yet. Not many people offer jobs on the spot. It looks unprofessional. There is also a chance s/he who interviewd you might need to confer with others, or more likely, to check your references. I've watched both my bosses hire a few people and they always check up on the potential employees paperwork, no matter how promising that person looks. Give them a week, and if you don't hear back from them in a week, give them a call to follow up.
Also, if you don't get the job, you can always ask them why you weren't hired. Lots of people will give you constructive critism if you ask, and that way you'll know what to work on.
Sinclaire- thanks a lot for the advice. It's reassuring, and I don't want to call and appear TOO eager- I want to appear eager to get the job, but also aware that he has to check references, interview others, etc.
Liz- I hadn't heard that about Greg! I'm open to both Tully's and Starbucks, and already thought of answers to interview questions about "why I'd want to work here" that emphasize the relative positives of each (I've always felt Starbucks is cozy and welcoming, whereas Tully's is somewhat brighter and breezier).
You walk past a cathedral on your way to school? Really? Neat! (Neat?)
